Signs 05:34
It's not the lies that show the signs It's the half-truths A life soaked in bleach and lye The stains never show through Every time, it starts in the spine And pools in the feet It takes a while, but the levels rise And something starts to seep Eventually Eventually Eventually Eventually It's not the lies that show the signs It's that tired smile Not alright, but not quite resigned Holding on for a little while Every time, it starts in the spine And pools in the feet It takes a while, but the levels rise And something starts to seep Eventually Eventually Eventually Eventually Vice grip on the weel and eyes on the road Can't be distracted, can't let the signs show Keep it together, no matter the cost Don't let it show Don't let it show Plumes of smoke in the rearview mirror All along the road that got me here If there's a way back to what we've lost I don't want to know! I don't want to know!

Fog 03:57
I wish I could be bothered To make a change Days just keep rolling by Like fog in the rain This stillness that surrounds me Feels just like peace Wave upon wave of white noise I'm slipping underneath I thought someday I'd break free Of this apathy But this is my resignation To complacency Fog getting thicker every day Dissident feeling, fade away Grit your teeth and grin through it Grit your teeth and grin through it Just like you oughta Just like you oughta Grit your teeth and grin through it Grit your teeth and grin through it Lambs to the slaughter Lambs to the slaughter

Powerlines 02:42
Powerlines Connective tissue between your house and mine An organism of light Powerlines Threaded tendrils stretching across the sky We're bound from the night Augmented currents Destructive currents Augmented currents Destructive currents This is our life This is our life This is our life This is our life Paradigm Shapes of the landscape, visible to the eye Disappear from the mind Pantomime Silent approximation of veins filled with life This beast we're inside Augmented currents Destructive currents Augmented currents Destructive currents This is our life This is our life This is our life This is our life

The Game 05:03
I don't want to play The game laid out before me I don't want to play So if it's not too late I decline to participate Is it too late? 'Cause I don't want to feel afraid no more And I don't want you darkening my door Whose side are you on? Who are the players, who are the pawns? And which side am I on? I just can't help but feel I'm a joke cash wedge on a spinning wheel But the stakes are real And I don't want to feel afraid no more And I don't want you darkening my door

There's something special about the place where they meet Those that tell us what to do A land once verdant and thriving with life Is now nothing but concrete and suits Power is traded for power By those odious, rebarbative churls "I yield back my time!" that woman yells While that man is clutching his pearls Over and over and over again The world watches as it grows The heart of this land's war machine Is reaping while it sows

Glide 03:07
Fires are raging, no end to this drought Children are scared when they go to school Watching adults play a game with their lives Where is the good? What is good? How do I make sense? I find a way to stand I don't need to understand Why There's good that I can do Just have to follow through And try Looking around, walls are closing in We see the same thing but we don't agree Different conclusions from what we see Is there objective truth? Always more news How do I clean up this mess? Well I find a way to stand I don't need to understand Why There's good that I can do Just have to follow through And try Don't need to know the end Just find a way to spend My time Won't always have control Just have to trust my soul And glide We find a way to stand Don't need to understand Why There's good that we can do Just have to follow through And try Don't need to know the end Just find a way to spend Our time Won't always have control Just have to trust our souls And glide

Contagion 03:19
I see bloodlust in your eyes Frothing at the mouth You bully and antagonize It makes you proud Wave your flag and pound your chest Jingoistic sound You got yours, so fuck the rest It makes you proud Maladjusted troglodyte Always punching down Pointing fingers left and right It makes you proud Your contagion floating downstream To a future you won't live to see You know all this will outlast you But how much damage can you do? Violently confused about The shit you say aloud You lick the boot that keeps you down It makes you proud Your contagion floating downstream To a future you won't live to see You know all this will outlast you But how much damage can you do? How much damage can you do?

You got what you wanted A slice of paradise Better Homes and Gardens Someone's storybook life You're not worked to the bone You're free to stay or to roam You got what you wanted But something's not right It's not the way you want It's not the way you want Not the way you want It's not the way you want I dreamed of a mountaintop All anointed with snow The golden glow of the sunrise Lifts me up from the fog down below And I'll climb my whole life Just to bask in that light But when I get to the summit I've never felt so alone It's not the way I want It's not the way I want Not the way I want It's not the way I want Sleepless, anxious emptiness I made my bed But I won't lie here And resign to it Whispering in the night (sleepless, anxious) Tossing and turning, I cry (emptiness) Anger in dreams bleeds through (I made my own bed) Calling us to the gloom (I won't lie here) Whispering in the night (It's not the way I want!) Tossing and turning, I cry (It's not the way I want!) Anger in dreams bleeds through (Not the way I want!) Calling us to the gloom We built this machine Out of Earth's blood and bones And to grow like a tumor Is the only life that it knows So we toil and we fight To appease its appetite We built this machine And we just can't let go That's why it's not the way we want It's not the way we want Not the way we want It's not the way we want Sleepless, anxious emptiness I made my bed But I won't lie here And resign to it

Epilogue 04:54
Tomorrow's war was Fought yesterday That's what we're left with A tragic comedy You hurry up and wait for A guarantee Instead you're left with A parody There is no reason To stand in line The walls have fallen around us And we're still stuck in the Rhine A constant battle With anxiety I drink my dinners Fuck sobriety These words I've written Are just a trope I'm holding on for my life Please don't cut the rope When Pandora opened her box The last thing she let out was hope This is an epilogue This is an epilogue This is an epilogue This is an epilogue It's never over There's more to be said I've cleared my conscience And I've made my bed When I'm feeling tired And the fog is rolling in I'll grit my teeth but it won't Be a grin When Pandora opened her box The last thing she gave us was hope This is an epilogue This is an epilogue This is an epilogue This is an epilogue

about

From Flowers to Flies' debut album, We Built This Machine, explores the overstimulating and dissatisfying constructs of modern life and the different ways we all attempt to navigate through them. Sonically, the band flits between different moods and soundscapes ranging from pummeling art-punk (Powerlines) to groovy indie rock (Glide) to slow-burning post-rock instrumentals (We Are What We Pretend To Be and Vamp Until Cue… Then Fade) and even a synth-led power ballad (Epilogue). The album was recorded in June and July of 2023 between studios in Fresno, CA and Austin, TX.
